We’ve done a fair bit of group travel in our time, that’s how we all met! And we love the fact that although you may land as a solo traveller, you always come back from an adventure with genuine friends. Our mission at GoPackme is to get your adventure started before you leave for a trip with us. We’ll coordinate a community which allows you to meet face to face with your fellow trip-mates in advance of you actually heading off. Meaning that those who share the trip with you are familiar faces you already know. All of this is done with the ambition of making group travel more accessible and inevitably more fun. Some of the best trips we have been on were inspired by hearing about them from other travellers. We want to keep passing on that inspiration to others, and invite you to share your travel stories and tips with our community and future travel buddies.

GoPackme to Armenia

Armenia is a magnificent country bursting at the seams with history, outdoor adventure and rich culture. Autumn is a beautiful time as the weather is fair and ideal for exploring. This 4 day trip will take you across different regions in the country to experience Armenia’s diverse landscapes, culinary traditions and ancient monuments

Day 1 – Thursday, September 16th – Exploring Yerevan (L, D)

Welcome to Yerevan. You will love this seemingly carefree city with locals (as it appears) on perpetual vacation. Couples walking hand in hand in the gardens, families enjoying ice cream in the Opera Square, artists capturing the sights and men smoking pipes while watching the world go by – Yerevan comes to life in the summer.

We will do the “history stuff” and take in the city’s cascade in Yerevan’s “artsy” district. We will meander along with one of the mainly pedestrian-friendly avenues and have a leisurely coffee or glass of wine. The city is packed with boutique shops that make for a great opportunity for shopping and bargains.

In the evening, you will be treated to a gourmet Armenian dinner fit for a hungry Escapee coupled with the best Armenian wines!

Day 2 – Friday, September 17th – The Armenia Countryside (B, L D)

Today we will see Armenia’s beautiful countryside and visit the stunning monasteries of Khor Virap and Novarank – both stunningly picturesque with amazing photographic opportunities! We will also visit Areni Winery to sample some local wine. In Aghavnadzor, we will get acquainted with the rural, Armenian village life – a different side to Armenia than the capital!

Khor Virap is the birthplace of Armenia’s Christianity and boasts a view of the biblical Mount Ararat. Novarank is also a wonder; surrounded by rocks and hundreds of caves, it truly represents harmony between architecture and nature. We’ll take in their fascinating histories and have some time to enjoy the grounds and take photographs.

We will continue to Aghavnadzor to discover how Armenian’s live outside the city and have a home-cooked meal for lunch. We will meet a local family who will give us a tour of their home and a glimpse into their everyday life.

We will stop at Areni Winery on our way back to Yerevan, where we will sample the village’s best wine assortments and learn about the wine-making process. We’ll finish our second day with another evening enjoying traditional Armenian fare.

Day 3 – Saturday, September 18th – Exploring Lake Sevan and Tsaghkadzor Ropeway (B, L, D)

Often referred to as the “Sea of Armenia,” Lake Sevan has its place as part of its national heritage to the same extent that Yerevan and the monasteries do.
Lake Sevan lies 1,900 metres above sea level and is 80 kilometres long and 30 kilometres wide, making it the largest body of water in the country. You will love the absolutely magical changing colours here, which, depending on the time of day, varied between deep blue, azure and turquoise, and, in combination with the surrounding volcanic mountains, lent the lake an incredibly picturesque appearance.

Day 4 – Sunday, September 19th – Vernissage Market & Departure (B)

Across the street from our hotel is the city’s largest open-air market. You can find the best examples of Armenian folk art, unique jewelry, and exclusive handmade masterpiece craftsmanship at the Sunday Vernissage market. After some early morning shopping (or sleeping in for those that prefer a little rest), we will transfer everyone to the airport in time for our flights back home.
